Isn’t this Golden Retriever puppy CUTE? I have to matt it and put it IN the frame. Hopefully I can get it done this weekend with some guidance from my older sister. And then on to my next project!!

Kaylynn will be here this weekend, Jacque’s granddaughter. I think they will be baking cookies.

Life in Stoughton has been slow. My business (PetCare by Julie) is slow going. I have an every Friday pet job starting Feb. 3 til April 15 and a couple of horse jobs in February.

So, I have been reading and cooking and reading and stitching and reading…………………………I want to start putting some of my recipes in my blog but only if I get some feedback!! ok???

So, here goes:

BEEF TINGA from Rachael Ray:

2# Beef Chuck, large cubes, 1# Mexican Chorizo, 4 cloves garlic, small sweet onion, 1/2 TB Cumin, 1/2 TB Oregano, 1/2 TB Coriander, 1 small can Beef Broth or Beef Consume’, 1 14oz can Diced Tomatoes, 1 TB Honey and 1-2 TB pureed Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce.

Brown Beef Chuck in olive oil and set aside. Brown Chorizo in remaining juices and add grated garlic, onion, cumin, oregano, coriander. Let simmer for a few minutes and then add remaining ingredients. Add Beef Broth or Consume’ until thick. (You may not use whole can) Let the flavors blend and then add the beef chuck. Bake in oven covered on 325 degrees for 30 minutes or so, until the beef easily pulls apart.

Serve with tortillas or bread. You can also garnish with cheese.

Have fun and let me know how it turns out! It is spicy so adjust chorizo and chipotle as desired. Also, puree whole can of Chipotle Peppers and put remaining in ziploc bag and freeze. Don’t forget to label it!! I used the Johnsonville Chorizo but if you can find a really good Mexican Chorizo please use that!! I know of a place in Farmington, NM that has WONDERFUL chorizo. Thanks to my friend Catherine for introducing it to me.

Lots of changes happened in 2011. Some good, some not so good. But, life goes on and I’m still alive! Celebrate Life!!!

Here’s a little project that I was working on this last week, after getting Christmas and Birthday presents done.

This sunflower is a 5X5 pillow that I made for my godmother Sally. Don’t tell her!!! The next are the dragonfly for Joyce and then the hummingbird for Jill. All hand-stitched by me!

I got some very nice Christmas presents from my sisters and a few cards from friends in the mail. Jacque and I just opened up some presents and quietly celebrated the day with music and movies. I went up to Claire’s, the landlady, for Christmas supper and it was all delicious! Ham, lasagna, beans, jello salad, veggies, pie and brownies and of course the cookies!! Saw a few people I hadn’t seen for a couple of years and had a very nice time visiting with them.

My business is slow-going but have gotten a couple of dogs to groom, and horses to feed.

Don’t forget to make some resolutions for the new year, and then keep them!!

Snow and Crows

It snowed here today. Only an inch or so of slush on the roads but the grass held some of it throughout the day. And the crows were in the yard eating the walnuts. I never knew this many birds could hang out together. There are at least 12 in this photo.

Well, some news: I am starting my own business. The name is PET CARE by JULIE. So, I take care of pets!! Cool, huh?!?!? I will be pet sitting, doggie daycare and some grooming. My business cards are being shipped to me as we speak (or I type) and I already have 3 customers. Claire, my landlord who is also a veterinarian, is giving people my name and soon I will have cards to put in her clinic in Stoughton and in the pet store down the block too. I am excited. I know there’s a market for it and am willing to make some money!!! I hear Christmas is just around the corner!! eeeekkkkk!!!

Mom is coming for a visit next week!! She plans on staying for a week, until Thanksgiving. We (Jacque and I) hope Matt and Paul and their families can come join us for a day (hopefully Saturday) and we can make it our Thanksgiving. So, we shall be doing lots of card playing and crafts (mom and Jacque) and going shopping.

Also want to thank every one who expressed their sympathy last month when Manley passed away. It meant a lot.

Fall in Colorado mountains. Wisconsin fall is damp, rainy and gloomy. Which would you rather see???

Been keeping busy with the new job and have started to clean up my garden as everything but the tomatoes and lettuce are done for the year.

This weekend I have been taking care of the landlord’s critters------------------cats, chickens and horse. Been trying to remember the last time I had cleaned a horse stall or said the words “going to go do chores”. Probably the last time I took care of these animals. :) (Several years ago and different animals.)

The rest of the weekend has been cleaning, cooking, pizza and a movie, and reading. We (Jacque and I) watched the premiers of some of the new tv programs last night that we had missed during the week. The cooking consisted of a pork pot roast with potatoes, carrots, squash and brussel sprouts. Made enough for at least 6 meals. The house smelled wonderful all day!!!

Where has this year gone???

It is hot and muggy here and expecting thunderstorms today. (Missing Colorado weather big time!!!)

I have been busy in my garden. I have green beans, pattypan and summer squash maturing and then in another couple of weeks my tomatoes will be ready. I haven’t had a garden for years so I have forgotten how much work it is if you don’t have a tiller to help keep the weeds away. I have no room for freezing vegs and no supplies to can them so I will not have that pleasure this year!! Maybe next year????

4th of July

Happy 4th everyone!! I have gotten numerous requests to update my blog, so here it is.

I now have a glider chair and a bed. Very comfy and good deals on both. So, my bedroom really does look like a bedroom now.

Job is going great. Some days a lot of time is spent on my feet but at least I have a job.

Manley is enjoying the summer weather and chewing on sticks in the yard.

I have been out in the garden weeding and what a chore that is!! No tiller to help, so all by hand.

I have a large amount of lettuce, cilantro and radishes so far. I got 10 tomato plants from Claire, our landlord, plus broccoli and squash. They are growing by leaps and bounds and so are the squash and green beans that I planted. It's nice to have a garden again. I haven't had one for quite a few years and am enjoying it.

Saturday I went to a get-together at my bff's Danielle's. She lives about 1 mile from Warner Park, where the Rhythm and Booms happen. We had a couple of drinks then headed down there. I have some pictures on facebook that I took with my Blackberry. Haven't been to fireworks for ages.

Finished taking off the flowered (blue, pink, lavender) wallpaper in the bathroom this morning. I will be painting it Eggshell soon.

Jacque and I went to Culvers for lunch. Then I will be making strawberry margaritas for us later so we can sit in our chairs outside and watch the traffic speed by.

The weather is warm and a tad humid but there is a slight breeze.

Really not much else going on. Just work, garden, read, watch tv and let dogs out.

OH!!!! I finally got to watch Snow Buddies. It's about 5 Golden Retriever pups that end up in Alaska and learn to dog sled............... It was good!

So, going to go read and relax for the rest of the day. Hope y'all had a great weekend!!!

Update time!!

Manley is very comfy on the new dog pillow. Jacque had some extra material and so she sewed the seams and I stuffed it and then whip-stitched the opening.

And this is Kisa’s new crate quilt that we did last weekend. It is the other side of Manley’s quilt.

So that’s it for my sewing this year!!! LOL!!

The job is going great and I am enjoying my coworkers. I don’t have to wait on crabby customers or answer the phone YET so life is good!!

I planted the garden yesterday. There will be broccoli, squash—3 kinds, cucumbers, cilantro, green beans (Jacque’s favorite veg), lettuce, green onions, and radishes. Hopefully Claire, our landlord, will have some leftover tomato plants that I can purchase from her.

Jacque and I are just enjoying the 3 days off and getting some projects done. I still have to groom Manley but not sure whether he gets a bath today or not.

Mom will be here in another few days for a long weekend. She is bringing us a stand for the sun room tv that she found at a garage sale. Some of mom’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will be coming over for a visit on Saturday, June 11th. And I am sure a lot of card games will be played while Mom is here. Jacque is taking off of work and seeing as my job is new I can’t take off.

Joyce and Jill are in Los Alamos at Kalyn’s graduation. I hope they are enjoying themselves. If I hadn’t moved I would be there too, so I am missing her big event. Best wishes to her.

Well, I got a job!! I am so excited. I will be one of the pharmacy technicians at the Women’s International Health. I will be filling prescriptions and customer service via phone and computer. WIH has been around for about 20 years on the east side of Madison and they also have a place in Phoenix, AZ. The atmosphere seems to be quiet and no big drama going on. Perfect for me!!

I start my 3-day orientation on Wednesday. They have good benefits and I am looking forward to working in a pharmacy once again!

Jacque and I started it yesterday and I finished it this morning. I also cleaned off the patio and broke down some boxes for Jacque so I could get my vehicle in the garage.

Hope every one had a good Mother’s Day. Manley and Kisa were not good kids as they did not even say “happy mother’s day” to me.

Friday I had a job interview at Women’s International Pharmacy on the east side of Madison. It went very well and am hoping they call back for the second interview this Wed or Thur.

Saturday Jacque and I went over to Paul’s for Kaylnn’s 6th birthday. I have not seen Paul for at least 4 years. It was fun and Kaylynn is so cute!

This is actually from last winter but it is of the view from Charlett’s (my co-worker) house up by one of the golf courses that was close to my old place on Florida Road. She sent me one of the view yesterday with no snow! I miss the view but I have the river now.

Update on Manley: his hematoma is shrinking and hardening a little at the bottom of his ear. It does not seem to bother him. The ear infection is gone and I have changed him over to a different food and I feel it is helping with his dry skin issues.

Don’t tell Manley-- but he is getting groomed today or tomorrow. I actually have 2 days off this weekend! Sunday and Monday. Just kickin’ back today and then doing some chores and laundry tomorrow.

And please put my mom’s husband, Ray, in your thoughts and prayers. He is in the hospital with flu-like symptoms. Nothing conclusive yet.

This is what I woke up to this morning. I’m sure it will all melt by the end of the day. It’s only sticking to the grass and trees.

He is on the Golden Retriever Puppy Calendar for March. I wish I could just pinch those cute little cheeks!! Every time I go past it I go ‘awwww. I remember when Manley and Dexter were this age and this cute’.

So, my life has been busy with working and working and reading about Wisconsin’s Governor. I feel for you guys, but I am really glad I am not in your place. I would be more upset than I am just from reading all of the news and posts.

On to cooler things.

Jill and Tim will be moving to Canon City, Colorado in another 4 weeks (approx) and I get to go visit the first full weekend in April! I can’t wait!!

Then at the end of May is Kalyn’s graduation in Los Alamos that a lot of my family will be at. So that will be exciting to go there!

The weather has been in the 50’s this week and only down to 25 at night so I am hoping that spring is on the way.

I am working 6 days this week as one of the gals is on vacation in Miami, Florida. (There is a Miami, Ohio so didn’t want to confuse any one!) Then this Sunday and Monday off. Nascar and chores.

I Had A Dream-----

And poof----my Subaru turned into a Rav4!!! Same year and a few more miles, less insurance, more mpg and what I really wanted 18 months ago!!!! Got a really good deal and I am happy!!!

Other news----I have decided that I am not having the aural hematoma surgery done on Manley again. I do not have the finances and still owe for the other surgery. It is not painful to him. Maybe just a little bothersome. Him and I had a long talk and he is ok with my decision.

Work is still going well and missing some of the people up in the other place but still see some of the sales guys when they come to pick up one of our vehicles. I really like the quiet---no paging and no guys cussing and swearing in the parts department.

SOOOOOO glad the Packers won the Superbowl and I am expecting a t-shirt as an early birthday present from my mom.

Sold some Jafra to my coworkers last week and made enough to get me a couple of items for myself. Lots of new colors in the blushes, nail lacquers, eyeshadows and lipsticks.

Must go and finish up my supper and then sit and watch tv. I spent my days off doing laundry, running errands, cleaning the apartment and reading.

Just wanted to tell you all that due to finances I do not have access to my computer and also no cable tv which means no tv around here without a pair of rabbit ears.

Work is going great and my schedule is Tues through Sat.

I was busy today with laundry, color hair, cleaning and then bathing Manley before listening to the Packers on the radio and through texts and facebook. GO PACKERS!!

I still have my Blackberry so can do a lot on here----it just takes longer with just thumbs vs both hands.

Bald Eagle, Packers and Work

This is a male bald eagle that is resting in the tree across the river. His white head is kind of in the snow on the mountains, but I think it’s pretty clear!! He is BIG when flying. I realized that there is a nest just up the river from me and here it is!

This is the female in the nest. They come back to this nest every year for the past 3 years that my landlord knows of. Pretty spectacular!!

And the Packers WON!!!!! 48 – 21 over the Atlanta Falcons. And lots of people at work thought the Falcons were going to win. NOT. It will be an interesting Monday morning when I go into work.

Talking about work, our computers and phones are all down in the new offices and we will have a very busy first week getting things organized and driving the cars down to that lot. It will be very different without all of the paging, parts guys yakking and the smell of the garage wafting through the doors when opened. I am looking forward to it.

I am reading David Baldacci’s ‘Hell’s Corner’ and then on to Tom Clancy’s ‘Dead or Alive’.

So, today I am going to get a few things done around here---- like laundry, dishes, vacuuming, and then watch the Bear/Seahawk game to find out who the Packers will play next Sunday!!! It is sunny out and about 20 degrees so far this morning, so will make the most of it!

Here’s how my day started Wednesday.

Some one hid my car!! I did find it though. :)

We got more snow the following day too. Roads are icy and snow covered. Now it is about 12 degrees above zero, and last night it got down to 19 BELOW zero.

I got to pick up Kalyn, my great niece, yesterday and spend some time with her bringing in the new year. We had pizza for supper and went to bed shortly after midnight. I made scrambled eggs with chorizo and english muffins and fresh-squeezed orange juice for breakfast. Then Jody, my niece, came about 2:00 to pick her up and take her back to Los Alamos. The roads are not good so I hope they make it without incident.

Tonight I am going out to Catherine and Mike’s for a prime rib dinner. The dessert will be a pound cake--- and guess who gets to take the leftovers home!! (just the dessert) Manley is the one who really got the invite but I get to drive him out there and drive him home. Glad I get to eat at least!!

Nothing much planned for tomorrow except laundry and football.

Winter Wonderland

Snow is accumulating and it is wet and the roads are slushy. There were also about 10 geese flying over the river but I didn’t get a close up in time. They flew right over Manley and I, maybe about 30 feet above us. You could hear the beating of their wings as they ascended. It was a thrill on this Sunday morning.

Hope everyone is ready for Christmas. I’ve gotten my part done. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to everyone.

I keep forgetting to mention that I had a birthday a couple of weeks ago. I received some gifts from my family while in Wisconsin. From mom and Ray I got a Packers tshirt with Aaron Rodgers on it, from Joyce and Jill (Tim, actually) I got part of my flight paid to Wisconsin, some candles from Jill and last but certainly not least, Jacque made Kisa a small quilt for on top of her bed pillow, made Manley a lap quilt (for when he is on my lap in the recliner or on the bed) with his name stitched into it, all made out of the same material that my gorgeous quilt is made out of--the greens/golds/blacks. I also received a couple of birthday cards and LOTS of birthday wishes from my coworkers along with a birthday bagel from my boss. If I forgot anything, please let me know!!! And thank you all for making my day special!!!

I Made My Mom Cry

This is my mom’s reaction as all 4, yes I said 4, of her daughters came out of Jill’s bedroom singing “Happy Birthday” to her--with me being last in line (with a big red bow on), and popping out from behind Jill and saying SURPIRSE!!!

She had NO idea that I was flying up to Wausau, Wi to see her on November 27th as her birthday present from Joyce, Jill and myself. I even called her Thanksgiving morning on my way to the airport. When she asked what I was doing that day, I said probably just reading and maybe watching some football. I left out the part about traveling to Wisconsin!! She even said she wished I was there. I said “I know”. As our family celebrated on Saturday, we 4 girls had to wait for 1+ days and think of the best way to give her her 80th birthday present---me!! Do you know how hard it is for our family to keep a secret?? Well, we pulled it off.

I guess I was a big hit!! :) At Jill’s house were Joyce, who was moving from Alaska to Maryland, and her daughter Jen and her son Trent, Jacque from Madison, and her son Matt and his 2 children, Jill and Tim, and Jill’s daughter Michelle and her friend, Jared, and of course, my mom and Ray.

We had a great day with lots of food and talk and laughing and fun. One of my bestest Thanksgivings!!! Thanks to my sister Joyce and to Tim (Jill’s significant other) I was able to afford the airfare and spend time with my family.

Manley stayed at my friend Deb’s house and got spoiled rotten while Kisa stayed home alone with my landlady checking in on her.

Since then I have learned that I will have more responsibilities at my job. Working World is moving out of New Country and into another office down the road (even closer to my place) and selling used cars. Our clientele have less than perfect credit and Charlett and I will be moving before Christmas if all the details get ironed out. Nickie is staying as the Toyota Sales Manager and we do not yet know who our manager will be. But, I will have an opportunity to make more money. So, more training and more opportunity to show my sales potential.

Manley is getting over a bladder infection . He is feeling pretty good today. The antibiotics are helping.

Friday night the ‘administration staff’ had a party at the owner’s residence. Margaritas, beer, mexican food and even presents!! Lots of fun was had by all. Then next Saturday is New Country’s Christmas Party. It will be pot luck, with a dj and over 110 people in the showroom.

Wet Cats

But they smell good now!!!! On the left is Miss Molly and on the right is Sully. These are the 2 barn cats that were still out at the cattery. I have them for a few (?) days until they catch the varmint that is ripping open and eating the cat food. Raccoon? Squirrel?

Seeing they have lived outside for at least 5 years and haven’t been bathed for that long, I gave them both a bath this afternoon so my place didn’t smell like a barn, or worse. They were both fairly good and even tolerated their nails being trimmed.

Catherine and I went to Farmington today. She even bought coffee and bagels for the trip down. I have been vegging the rest of the day and just watching tv tonight.

Tomorrow I need to get online and finish my continuing ed for my pharm tech certification. Then Nascar, laundry, football and some cleaning.

This next week I will be working Monday through Saturday as we are closed on Thanksgiving Day and I don’t want to lose too many hours.

I woke up to about an inch of snow Thursday morning but with the sun coming out it all melted. There is at least a foot of snow up in the mountains that I’ll have to get some pictures of. The nights have been cold and daytime highs of 45. Layers are the answer for this area!!

Bambi, Are You Lost??

First deer I have seen since I moved in here 6 months ago.

I can’t believe this weather. It gets down into the 20’s at night and then is 50 or 60’s during the day. It can stay like this all winter!! Manley and I are enjoying the outdoors on our walks along the river or downtown.

This weekend I have been putting up with a migraine. But, I ran a couple errands with Manley and did the normal cleaning (and still in the process). This afternoon I will be watching Nascar while straightening up my desk area. Then I get to watch the Packers on Sunday Night Football!!!!!!

My favorite cd right now is the new Sugarland and the first song on it is All We Are and I crank it up!!!!!

Loved being able to sleep an extra hour today. And I love that my computer, tv, & blackberry set themselves!!

The reason I ask that is because she is on Manley’s bed and has Manley’s purple bunny behind her. She does have her own bed but has been hogging Manley’s lately for some reason.

Manley is doing fine. We went to the vet for a recheck yesterday and he will be on antibiotics for another 10 days when his stitches come out.

Back to work for me through Saturday, then just Sunday off as I transition into my Mon-Sat. schedule.

Hope y’all have a good week and keep warm. There is frost on my windshield and I saw my breath last night when I took Manley out at 10 pm. Some ski slopes are open already in Colorado because there is a lot of snow up in them thar mountains already!! :)

Having a quiet day at home. I slept in and then did some cleaning, laundry and changed the bed. Now I am watching Nascar, may take Manley for a walk (depending on weather) and then watch Sunday Night Football with the Packers and Vikings.

Question: In the paper the other day they were talking about “Favre’s Vikings”. Did he buy them??? cuz otherwise it would also be “Rodgers’ Packers” RIGHT?????? Just wanted to point that out to somebody.

I just received Sugarland’s new CD ‘The Incredible Machine’. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! Good thing I had the volume cranked up cuz I got shivers from Jennifer’s very first note! I am mailing Jenni her own cd tomorrow that I got her for her birthday—yes, 3 weeks ago. I hope she likes it as much as I do!! I normally don’t buy gifts for my nieces or nephews, but I got a great price and knew she would love me forever then!! Just kidding! I knew she would love getting the cd as she has seen them in person a lot.

So, tomorrow I have a busy day off. Manley has a recheck at the vet’s at 8 am, then off to the post office, gas, library, grocery store, pet food store, and then out to the cattery. Manley still has a small hematoma at the very bottom of his ear (just a tad smaller than a dime—3cm???) that has not gone away with his vetalog shot last Monday. (I know there’s a better word in place of ‘gone away’ but can not think of it. Dissolved? Oh well, :) Jacque will correct me when she reads this and replies.) He is still on his antibiotics for another 2 days but I quit the pain pills when I was able to palpate his ear without him being too sensitive. He has been so good in not scratching or rubbing on his ear. I think he probably tried scratching once and realized that that hurt!! Maybe he can get most of the pink vet wrap cut off tomorrow and just leave some around the stitches til they’re taken out in another week or so.

Silverton Trip

I am just going to post several pictures of the trip to Silverton Oct. 9th with Catherine. I love the fall colors and then the snow up in the mountains at 10,000 feet and above.

The last picture is the town of Silverton. It is sitting in a valley with spectacular mountains and a river.

I finished up my Christmas and birthday shopping and got myself a nice jacket and a couple of tshirts. We had lunch at the Handlebars restaurant where I met a young gentleman and his girlfriend who were from LaCrosse, Wi!! and drooled over the peach cobbler for dessert. The weather was perfect. Sunny and cool. We had fun!!!

Monday Manley had surgery. He had a hematoma on his left ear that needed to be lanced and drained. He is fine now and wearing his pink vet wrap (supporting breast cancer month) proudly. He is on antibiotics and pain pills. I can handle his ear now without him flinching or feeling any pain. His new vet, Dr. Randy Hays, is very nice and I was complimented on how right-on Manley’s weight is. We have a check up this coming Monday morning.

This is my 3-day weekend, and tomorrow we are going for a hike. Then football, watch a movie and read the new book ‘In Harms’ Way’ by Ridley Pearson.

Today we just basically hung out after I went to the Farmer’s Market, library, and grocery store. I met a very nice couple in City Market. She is a Christian young people’s author. I have to find out what the titles of her books were. They are from Austin, TX and now live between Durango and Bayfield. We were talking about making soups this weekend and she offered to send me some recipes. So, of course I accepted!!

I made green chile pork soup and a new one—squash apple soup. Will be making a beef based soup tomorrow. Now that I have a regular freezer I can make things ahead.

Here’s the fall colors outside my door along the river. I actually saw some boxelder bugs on the side of the building today in the sun! I will have to look for the trees, as I did not know we had any in the neighborhood, let alone the state! :) The weather has been in the 60’s and 70’s and then 40’s at night. Lots of sunshine, but with rain in the 7 day forecast.

And, I am now the proud owner of a smartphone. I upgraded my phone and got the new Blackberry Curve 9630. I have unlimited texting, access to my email and hundreds of other applications and many things I have not even found yet. I am now in the year 2010!!

Kisa is doing fine. I think she likes being the only cat. She is too funny when it is feeding time. Wherever Manley goes, Kisa is right alongside of him. She’s been doing this since she was a baby and it is funny to watch! Especially when Manley runs back and forth from the food to the chair I am in.

Well, off to finish watching the Nascar race.

My Gift

This is a picture that hung on Pat and Kevin’s living room wall that I always admired. It’s an oil painting on canvas. Jim and Joann gave it to me a couple of weeks ago. They knew I liked it and it meant a lot that they gave it to me. I am still very excited to have this and I must have thanked Jim and Joann a dozen time. I do not know the origin, but it is signed by ‘cooper’ and the framer’s name is on the back. Will have to do some research!

I did give Manley a bath and grooming last Saturday. Doesn’t he just look handsome? He hated every minute until the treats. Figures!!

Catherine and I went to Jean-Pierre restaurant today. This was our chocolate eclair that we split for dessert. We had salads for our main entree!

The owner put the leftovers in a bag and then made this swan for me. I have never had a swan before! Then Catherine and I went walking downtown for a bit. I even bought my sisters a Christmas/Birthday present!! and talked to Jacque for a minute—it was a horse question!! Catherine and I had a great day and are going up to Silverton in a couple of weeks.

Then I came home, watched some football and then found this lazy thing:

He never woke up until after the camera made noise. His head is on Kisa’s quilt. Usually MY naps are taken in my recliner!!!! Glad he is so comfy.

All of the cats left this week for Iowa or California. Now it is just the 3 of us. Kisa is happy and talking again.

Last night Manley and I went out to the cattery (that is no more) to check on Sully and Molly. Well, they have an auto-feeder so I just have to fill that up once a week. And they have 2 ponds to drink out of. So, Molly was right there by the house, but no Sully. So, I was calling out his name, waited, called out his name again…. and then about 3 minutes later---- here he comes RACING from around the back of the barn!! He had quite a lot to tell me and it took a good 30 minutes. He is quite the cat. You pet him, sit in the swing, and talk to him, and he talks back! He had to tell me all about this last week and how lonely it is without all of the other cats, any one working or staying out there and how he likes company.

I also have tomorrow off and will be boxing up summer clothes and putting out winter clothes, even though we are suppose to have temps in the 80’s this next week. And, straighten up the storage area and see when the landlord can close it in with heavy duty plastic so I don’t get any snow in there. Plus cleaning, laundry……..

Thrilled that the Packers are on Monday Night Football so I get to watch them!! Go Pack!

Work is going great and hope my bonus is enough to finish Christmas/Birthday shopping! If y’all have any ideas of what to get you, please let me know. (Jacque, all done with yours!!)

Fall, Cats, Football….

So, long time since I blogged. A lot going on, a lot ending and seasons changing! The leaves are turning and fall weather is here.

My job is going great. Made a nice bonus this last month since I started making some collection calls. Never a dull minute!!

Found homes for all of the cats. What a relief!! Some are in California, some are in Iowa, and some are in Texas. I have 5 extra cats (all in crates) here at the apartment waiting for the transport guy to get here and take them to their new homes. Only a couple more days and then it will be just Kisa, Manley and me. What to do??

I will still go out to the house and make sure Sully and Molly have enough food, water and are okay at least once a week.

It sure will be different not going out to the cattery/house daily as I have been doing that for over 6 months. There were a lot of good memories made out there. And the house looks totally different. There were so many changes made inside and outside. Sanded floors, new fixtures, new furniture, no more cat enclosures, trees planted, lawn nice and green, driveway repaved, ……………..

Jim and Joann have returned to Las Vegas after getting the house ready to sell. It didn’t go up for auction after all, so they will put it up for sale when spring rolls around. They will be visiting every so often. We have all become fairly good friends and have fun together.

Football season started. And I got to see the Packers win yesterday!! It is not often that they televise the Packers in this area so it was a treat!

Manley is in desperate need of a grooming and bath. Saturday and Sunday might look like good days!! But, what Sat and Sun!!!

Still sort of doing my diet. Lost 11 pounds and gained 1 back. Have to start walking my dog along the river and enjoy the scenery, the sound of rushing water, leaves turning colors, while my favorite season is here.

Farmers Market only lasts another 3 Saturdays. Then no more lemon cucumbers, pattypan squash or roasted green chiles.

A funny cat story: I had put Deuce in a small travel crate and set that in the back of my car. Well, as I am rounding a curve, I see the crate moving slowly from one side to the other. OOPPS! Forgot there were wheels on it!! So, I’m sure Deuce was glad to get out of that one!! I could just hear him thinking/saying whhhhheeeeeee as he was traveling from one side of the car to the other!

Thunderstorms and Cats

We have had some extraordinary cloud formations with the monsoon season here. It has been sunny in the morning and raining late afternoon. The river is back up to normal and the rafters are happy.

Cat happenings: 3 cats are going to San Antonio, TX in a couple of days, 2 cats are being picked up next weekend to go live in Castle Rock, CO, one cat is traveling to Iowa to join the other 3 already there, one cat is being picked up Monday, and another 1 or 2 cats are being picked out tomorrow and new their home will be just down the road from the cattery. I’ll have 4 cats left. One intact male and 3 intact females. But, there is some interest in those 4 being spayed and neutered and living the good life in Missouri. Or maybe 1 or 2 going to the place in Iowa. I’m hoping they will all have good homes within 2 weeks.

The auction went well today. It was the machinery and trailers and such. I directed traffic for a while until I knew I had had too much sun (and yes, I did have spf 30 on and had even reapplied).

September 9th is the estate sale out at the cattery. Course, now there are no more enclosures in the garages and it looks very different from when I moved in there over 3 years ago. Trees, flowers, more grass, fresh paint, new gates and everything neat and clean. A lot more pleasing to the eye. Joann and Jim have done wonders with the house these last 6 months.

Tomorrow is another day. Clean, laundry, grocery shop, feed cats, make pico de gallo for people at work (Manley’s 9th birthday is on Monday) and maybe watch some football, if there’s any on.

Timing is everything!!

Had a good day today. Had my 90 day review with Nickie and Tom. We discussed many things: where I wanted to be in a year, how we can improve customer relations, what I like most about my job……………. Well, needless to say, they want me to stick around and be part of the New Country family. Nickie has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the customers and fellow employees. I have settled in nicely and am part of the team. I am thrilled, to say the least!!

Plus, I got an email today from a lady who is interested in buying some breeders! So, if every one buys/takes who they say, we will be down to just a couple of cats. Then, I’ll be out of a job, but will have more time to do things with my own pets.

I get to see my niece again this Sunday, plus her daughter and Reuben. We will meet for lunch and then she has to come and inspect my apartment. Guess that means I have to clean. And comb my dog.

Okay, time to watch a little tv and go to bed.

This storm cloud was spectacular on the way home from the cattery Thursday. And yes, it did rain and thunder and lightning.

Sold another 3 or 4 cats Friday and they will be going to Arizona and Texas.

The cats in Iowa and California are happy and living the good life.

I wish I had a picture of this story, but those with good imaginations can picture it! :

Manley brings in these little thin, thin branches that have fallen off of a tree. This one happened to be about 15 inches long and in the shape of a Y. Well, Kisa thought it was her toy too so she was playing with the end Manley wasn’t chewing on. (If you know Manley at all, when we use to be outside in the fenced-in yard in Madison, he would protect his stick from all of the other dogs and usually growl, snap or bare his big teeth.) So, I thought he might at least growl at Kisa, but he just watched her and quickly chewed up as much as he could! I was just waiting for something to happen, wishing that I hadn’t left my camera across the room, and then the stick was gone and Kisa went bounding off with “that was fun, now what?” look.

I’m glad they get along so well. She sure knows Manley and how far she can push him!!! It’s hilarious to watch them interact sometimes!

Well, down to Farmington with Catherine today, try to watch the Nascar race (depending on when it’s on) and then feed cats and not much else. Tomorrow we are moving cats around and taking out some of the enclosures in order to get ready for the equipment auction in a couple of weeks.

I may have to make a trip to Albuquerque so the cats can fly to Texas, in the San Antonio area. Any one want to come with?? It’s a 3 hour drive one way.

It’s going to get hot down here again this week. I hear it’s hot in Wisconsin. Keep those fans and air conditioners running!!

Missing Dusty Dawg

Saturday Dusty Dawg and 2 youngsters started their journey to Iowa. They arrived there late yesterday and are in the good hands of Angie and Sheri. Dusty was always my favorite girl, from the day she was born. Angie will make sure she keeps me posted on how she is doing and when she has kittens…….

Crossfire also traveled this weekend. He was 1/2 brother to my Kisa and a favorite for most everyone that met him. He is now in California with a lovely lady named Shirley who wants a cat to sit on her lap all day long. That’d be Crossfire!

Kris Kruse-Elliot also received her cat Cheyenne aka Mink Coat. Kris use to be at the vet school in Madison, so I know that Cheyenne will have a good home and play with Mas, their other cat.

12 cats left. We hope to find all of them homes within the next 3 weeks. Then I will be out of that job and back to pinching pennies again!!

Having a 3-day weekend and keeping out of trouble. Watched the Nascar race and cleaned the cattery, went to Farmer’s Market, library, grocery store, and gas station. I have a check up this a.m. and then can enjoy the rest of the day reading.

New Glasses

Here are my new glasses. Ya know, it is hard to take pictures of yourself.

I love them.

So, have only sold 5 cats total. The girls in Iowa decided to only get 3 and then I had sold one to a couple in Denver and then sold one to Kris from the vet school, who is now out in California. This next week I will be making a few phone calls and trying to sell the rest of the cats.

Just been busy with work, driving back and forth to the cattery, keeping cool and doing my daily chores. It has finally rained the last 2 days and cooled down 20 degrees.

I have this weekend off so I will be at the Farmer’s Market, library, grocery store and then home. Then I venture back out at 2:00 to get my hair done. Then I go out to the cattery.

Sunday I will get my apartment ready for Jody and Reuben to visit! We are going out to lunch. Not sure where, but it’ll be fun.

Diet: I have lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks and love that my clothes fit better. I am very determined to get some weight off.

Here is a really pretty copper/red colored hummingbird. There are 2 or 3 of them that visit my feeder. They are hard to take pictures of because they are so fast and always on the move.

Well, I have been busy selling cats, taking care of them, working and taking care of my place. Not too much excitement.

Yesterday Manley got groomed and Kisa got combed. Amongst me cleaning, doing laundry, running to the library, (well, driving actually!) and making phone calls about cats.

I started a diet last week Thursday and have lost 5 pounds already. I lowered my caloric intake and upped my water intake. I will do that for a month, then gradually increase calories and see if I can maintain.

Walter and Jim from Seattle are arriving Sunday to pick out a cat. Then the next week, 5 cats are going to Iowa. Then the week after that I hope to get Cheyenne to Kris in San Fran!! I am hoping Jim and Joann will take her back to Las Vegas and fly her out of there. And they will also be taking Leigh back to Mary. So, then there will be half as many cats!

I get to see my niece Jody and her boyfriend Reuben July 25th!! I am very excited to see the both of them.

Who has time for a job????

Well, have to finish getting ready for that job.

Fun Sunday

Had a wonderful day with Catherine. We went to Farmington (an hour south in NM) and had lunch at the newly opened Olive Garden. OM!!! I had the pork mon……… with stuffed tortelini. It was awesome!!! Then we went to Petco to pick up dog food for me, toys for Catherine’s dogs, then to the Mercado for chorizo, rice and some marinated pork, then to Sam’s Club where I bought some chicken, grapes, wine and a stainless steel work table. It’s on wheels so I can move it over to the sink or stove or frige and get my food preparation done.

Catherine was my first guest in my new apartment and loves it. It’s bigger and more room for Manley to lounge around!! She thinks it suits me better than my last place.

I start working for 2 weeks Monday through Friday. I only had one day off this weekend, will have both Sat and Sun next weekend and then Sat, Sun and Mon to transition into the 2 Tues – Sat. weeks. So, I have a 3 day 4th of July weekend!!

OH!! I sold one of the cattery cats today. Sugar Ray will be neutered and going to a new home west of Denver. The buyers already have 2 pixiebobs from about 2 years ago and want to help out and give another one a good home.

So, this should be a busier week for me with taking Sugar Ray up to be neutered.

So, Manley has been enjoying his quilt in his little corner of the world.

I got a call from my sister Jacque the other day because she had been waiting for me to reply/call about one of her blogs. She had me go to a certain one and lo and behold, she made me a glass case out of my quilt fabric and even padded it!! It should be in the mail very soon and in my hands soon after that! I am very excited. I did not expect her to make it for me so soon.

Just been working, feeding cats and trying to find interested people to buy these pixiebobs and/or start their own breeding program.

I have Sunday off, then work Mon – Friday for 2 weeks, then back to Tues – Sat for 2 weeks.

So, after several times of Manley trying to squeeze into the corner with Ralphie, the Golden Retriever statue, I finally moved the end table over and moved the statue and let Manley have a corner.

So here is Ralphie, behind my recliner, looking towards my entry door.

I’ve been busy working and helping out the new cashier. Debbie has worked for New Country before and took Linda’s place. She knows the system somewhat and has done really well.

I got my hair cut and colored tonight after work. And I am trying out wearing single vision contact lenses and then using readers for close work. Still have not decided on the lenses and readers, or progressive glasses with the transitions.

I need help with the TITLE. Please post your suggestion!! The poor thing only has a large living/dining room to find a place to sleep, but picks this corner. Go figure!

Is this a dog head? Can this be comfortable? And what kind of dog has a head like this?? And he slept while I took about 4 pictures.

Working today. It’s suppose to be up in the 90’s, so glad I had air conditioning at work and will have a cool place to come home to, especially if there is a breeze.

I hope every one had a good Memorial Day weekend. It was blue skies and warm weather here in Durango. Lots of happenings downtown and the carnival was in town.

Saturday after work Manley and I went out to Catherine’s and I had fajitas, guac, chocolate pie and mint ice cream. I had wine and did basically nothing except eat and talk. And, the food was delicious and so was the company!! Manley had a good time and was pooped by the time we got home. He had to deal with 3 German Shepherds and then all of the petting!!!

Sunday I slept in and then even took a nap. I guess I had an exhausting week!! Watched Nascar and read a book, “9th Judgement” by James Patterson.

This morning I cleaned the cattery, did my laundry, did my nails, and watched a couple of movies. One was with Cuba Gooding “The Way of War”. It was kind of slow moving but man is he is shape!!Biceps galore!

For supper I made pork chop, asparagus, and put that with avocado, mushrooms, and cilantro on my big salad.

Now I will see what’s on tv or read.

Fox Hole

I know the picture is blurry, but what do you expect when you are going 55 mph?

So, this picture is of a fox hole and one little fox is sitting on the edge of it. It’s the brown sand in the bottom third of the picture. Remember, click on the picture to enlarge if you want.

There were 3 different holes and I have seen as many as 3 fox at 2 of them. And this is right along Hwy 172, when I go out to the cattery.

So, I have just a few more boxes to go through, mostly paper files….. The boxes in the dining room are empty and going back to Deb. Have to find a small kitchen/dining table to halfways match my two oak chairs.

My storage area is 2/3 full and this winter I am going to put up some heavy plastic to keep the snow out. I have the boxes in the back and the plastic totes in front.

I have one more trip to the old place to get my bike, albums and lawn chairs. My tires are at Catherine and Mikes for the summer, then they will be sold.

Now Manley can actually chase a ball in the house!! He was all excited this morning when we were playing. ROOOOOMMMMMM to RUUUNNNN!!

Just relaxing and reading this afternoon. Maybe sitting and going through a box, but nothing major. I am tired of looking at boxes!!!

I Hate Bath/Grooming Day

Yup, Manley does not like baths or grooming. Poor thing. At least he got to be on the couch for a while. (When he was dry)

I think I worked harder yesterday and today, my days off, than a day at work. I was at Walmart buying totes by 8:30 am, changed my address, stopped to see Mike at the EconoLodge, stopped at the library and then back home to finish up laundry and got the bedroom in order. Just a couple small boxes with bills and such to be gone through and put somewhere. This afternoon I went and bathed Manley, then came home and groomed him outside up on his table. Then I went out and fed the cats, came home and changed my bed and made supper. Now it is time to sit with my feet up and watch House and 24 and Castle.

I worked on the living room and dining room yesterday.

Still lots of boxes in the other part of the dining room, but some of it goes into my storage area and some in the garbage. That will wait until this next weekend when I get the dolly/hand cart back. Or when I have some energy back!!

Mother’s Day

So, today I made 2 trips to get more of my stuff out of the old place. I have 1 more trip left to get the crate, grooming table, xpens, desk chair and my bike.

I put clothes and bedding away, got the bathroom done and rearranged my bakers racks so I could put my microwave on top of one. Lots more boxes to go through and decide if I want to keep, store or throw. Tomorrow I really want to bathe Manley and get my kitchen in order too.

Manley met the downstairs dog. Can’t think of his name right now, but he is part boxer. Manley is getting pretty low key when meeting new dogs nowadays. Course, he is much more interested in their owners, as the owners know how to pet him. :)

I hope every one of you mother’s had a great day today. Kisa and Manley were well-behaved, which is all my mom ever wanted on her special day from all of us girls!!

I have the closet and kitchen cupboards left to move, plus the grooming table and crate and vacuum cleaner to bring over here yet. And some boxes to go through and find homes for the stuff inside. Or not!!

Job is going great. We had a meeting today and I was introduced as one of the new hires.

I come home for lunch now that I live only 1/2 mile away. Manley loves it.

Still doing the cattery.

Beef Stroganoff---My Lucky Day!!!

So, today, my day off, I went to the library, bank, Bed Bath and Beyond for a blender, Pier 1 for plastic glasses, then out to lunch at ‘Swing’ with Deb. It was our celebration lunch for me getting a job/apartment. Lo and behold, my personal chef was on duty and lo and behold, he had made beef stroganoff. OMGosh!!! We had Andy as a waiter and Chris came out and gave us hugs and sat and gabbed for while. I ate it allllll!! Just call me little miss piggy!! I’m still drooling!!

So, back to packing up a few boxes and then out to the cattery later.

I still need to measure my windows at the new place for curtains. Just something to spruce it up over the blinds.

Storm Pictures

I was driving out to the cattery the other evening when a storm was happening. Awesome clouds. It was also lightning but couldn’t capture that one!

Well, I’m sure some of you are waiting to hear about my job, other than I really love it!

My hours are 8:30 to 5:30 with an hour lunch Tuesday through Saturday. It is a desk job. I take payments, set up payments and give people codes to get into their cars. These are on the loans for people with bad credit. I also have to make sure the insurance is updated, because in Colorado you have to have insurance or it’s a big fine. I send out the monthly statements and insurance letters. At the end of the day I cash out the register, credit card machine and run a few reports and make a deposit. During lunch I plan on going home and letting the Manley out and hang with him for a bit.

Saturday they started cross-training me for the cashier for the parts and service side. That is more complicated as there are more processes involved on the computer. You are to receive it, invoice it, get paid, accept payment and then file it. Plus they have a car wash business which has many steps in the computer too.

The people I work with are really nice and have been there for at least a couple of years, and some have been there for 17 years. All of the people are smiling, talking, giving each other a bad time and having fun. I guess the girl I replaced was a little witchy and sullen. And would never offer to help any one else. Not me!!!

One of the trainers wants to go hiking with me after I get moved. So, exercise is a good thing!!

So, I am trying to pack, move, start a new job and get rid of two cats all at the same time. The cats will go out to the cattery to live starting later this week until I find them a real home.

Yes, still doing the cattery daily. Probably another 2 weeks at the least.

Today I will be packing, taking things out to the garage and maybe watching the Nascar race. Have to find out what time it is though.

The walls are tan or light green, the woodwork is sage green and the closet doors are sage green. Perfect for me, seeing green is my favorite color!!

There are 6 apartments in the complex and the owner lives next door and his mother-in-law lives in the upper apartment next to mine. No one will be walking past my door as their entrances are on the other end. They like quiet and have a very specific lease.

Lonely Clouds

These are the only clouds that I have seen today and it is after 3:00. It’s in the low 60’s and sunny!!! Got about 2 hours of yard work done and it looks much better around the pond. The flowers are coming up and some are even blooming. Manley was out there with me and he had a great time rolling in the grass and lolling in the sun or shade.

Tuesday’s Snow

Here I am, driving back from the cattery, and watching it snow. Yes, I said SNOW!! It didn’t accumulate on the road, but a good 1/4” on the grass/fields. It was done by noon and now it has been mostly cloudy and only about 45 degrees.

Yesterday it was 70 degrees and I was out raking lawn and picking up a mess the kids made. Manley was on his line for almost 2 hours and enjoying the sun.

Well, I am guaranteed at least 2 more weeks of taking care of the cattery. I am going to put that money aside and if I can’t find a job in another month, I will seriously think about moving to the other side of Colorado, where 2 of my sisters will be this fall (if all goes as planned).

Somebody asked me yesterday if I would ever consider going back to Walgreens (here in town) and I said, ‘sure, for $100/hour’!!!! I laughed and laughed!

Elk/Manley/Sparkle

Oh no! It’s a shaggy coat bobcat!! Really, it’s Sparkle. She cried so bad to go outside, so here she is!!

Sparkle likes to sneak out the door when I am letting Manley in or out but sticks close by the door. So, this time she got put in the xpen and wasn’t sure she liked it! (She never offered to climb the fence either. She’s a little timid that way.)

Before I got her, the guy had a cat door, so she was in and out a lot. This will not be a common practice. Just wanted to see what she would do.

Today I’m going to Farmington with Catherine (supper is off due to a change in their daughter’s schedule) and tomorrow is grooming day for Manley and Sparkle. She is blowing coat faster than Manley.

Then I’ll do some yard work, as it is suppose to be in the low 70’s and sunny.

In Memory of Allegra

Here is Allegra, who would have been 12 today. She taught Manley a lot about bitches. He really respects them, because they take away toys (as she is doing with the hard to see puppy Manley)!!!!!! No if, ands, or buts about it!!

Allegra died this last fall, and belonged to my sister Jacque. She is deeply missed and she is thought of often.

Today I had an interview at a pediatric office. I think it went well. It is for part time and maybe working into full time in August. I will keep you updated on that progress.

Manley got word today that he is not getting the job at EconoLodge. I feel so badly for him. Maybe there will be another job for him soon! Or he will have to work for free around here picking up pine cones and sticks. At least it will keep him out of trouble :).

Saturday I am going to Mike and Catherine’s for Orange Chicken. Nummy! Oh, and if I don’t bring Manley I will not be let in the door! I have to find out what menu addition I’m suppose to bring.

Tomorrow I will be cleaning out the hot tub and pumping out the brackish water from the pond and refilling it after going out to feed cats.

Manley and I were playing ball. (and yes, in the house) and when he brought it back, he sat, with his front legs still on the recliner foot rest! I just about died laughing and almost didn’t get the shot!! But, I don’t think he appreciated me laughing at him. Hey Manley, it’s either laughing at the cats or you!!!

This was our weather yesterday. Windy, windy and more windy. This is like a dust storm. That is spring in the Rockies!!!

Sunshine or Snow??

Today was a hodgepodge of weather. This morning it was cloudy, then snowing, then sunshine, then snow, then cloudy, then snow, … I guess it was April Fool’s from Mother Nature!!

“Spit, Manley, Spit” is something my sister Jacque and I taught Manley when he was a pup. Sometimes he did it, sometimes not. Most of the time for his auntie though. So, today he picked up something off of the floor and I said, “Spit, Manley, Spit” and he did!! (It was an uncooked penne pasta noodle that I must have dropped last night.) And he got a big treat and lots of praise!! So, his auntie would be proud of him cuz he still remembers!!

And it is starting to snow again!! Four times today!! No accumulation.

What is every one doing for Easter? I am just hanging out.

New Wall Hanging

This is now hanging on the wall to the left of my bathroom door where I previously had sconces hanging. The frame was originally a medium oak, but I painted it a burnt orange to bring out some of the colors. I love that it has cowboys, horses AND bright colors too!!

This ceramic flower was a little treat to myself today. (Under $5.00 and it is more purple than the picture shows.) It is sitting front and center on the base of the tv. I also bought a Christmas, Birthday, OR Sister’s Day present for each of my 3 sisters. Whichever event comes first!!

I was downtown today for lunch with Debbie. We went to Gazpacho’s, a great Mexican food place and GREAT margarita’s!! Plus we had a coupon. Then I went for a stroll down Main Ave. It was bright, sunny and in the 60’s. It was so nice to walk around without a jacket on.

The snow is melting and I can see the rock/herb garden again! Manley is glad that some snow has melted, as now he can eat the little twigs on the ground again.

Manley applied for a job today. Good boy! He called the owner of EconoLodge (where I use to work) and left a message letting Mike know that he was applying for the front desk agent position. But, he was asking for a higher hourly rate, as his tail wag is in such high demand!! And Manley also let Mike know that he is friendly and personable, and even though he has no thumbs, he can still type-- just not as fast as his mom. Plus, he is highly qualified for breakfast ‘cleanup’.

(Remember, Mike and Catherine are good friends of mine and they, especially Mike, LOVE Manley.)

So, hope Manley hears something soon, as he could use the money cuz he might not get paid for picking up pine cones and sticks this year from his mom. He’ll either be at a real job or will refuse--due to lack of getting paid a decent wage. Manley does not work for free!!

So, that’s it on the job front. Applying and sending resume’s and checking back, but nothing yet. Will keep you all posted!!

The Moon is Peeking at Me!!!

Just had to put this picture on my blog. The moon is peeking through the trees right out my bedroom window up the hill. These oak saplings still have some of their leaves on from last year.

So, hope y’all had a good day. I did. I have actually had a couple of good days.

Yesterday morning I went and dropped off my resume’ at Dr. Ciotti’s, my very own doctor’s clinic. They had one of the receptionists quit this last week, and they are a busy clinic. I know both doctors, the PA, the nurse and the receptionists from going there and from working at Walgreen’s. Then, lo and behold, my friend Catherine walked in with her sick daughter. We chatted a bit and I told the receptionist that if she wanted a good reference----there she was!

I went to get my haircut (short and spiky) and colored and then spent part of the afternoon relaxing and reading. Spent some time in the hot tub too. About 4:30 the kids invited me over to meet some of their friends from SteamBoat, Co and we had fun playing beer pong and chatting til 9ish. Manley joined the party at one point and got lots of attention. He is a reallllll party animal!!

This morning I went out to feed cats…. and then Catherine called and we went to Farmington. She brought me a turkey/cheese sandwich and chips from home, as I had not eaten yet. Then we stopped at Starbucks, got coffee and dessert, then stopped in the Toyota dealer to get her bluetooth reconnected. We talked with Don, the salesman who sold me my car. He is just too cute and nice! And both he and Catherine are from Texas. Ya know, with the drawl. Gotta love it! Then we got to Farmington, stopped at the Mexican store for tamales and chorizo and then to Sam’s. She let me add wine, chicken, strawberries and grapes on her Sam’s card and then I paid her back. Then she got us some drinks for the ride home.

I know, this is long, but a good story!!

****Catherine told me that she had talked with Dr. Ciotti (might as well go right to the top!) yesterday, and told her that it would really benefit their clinic to have me as an employee. I am friendly, good with people, hard worker………..

I am really blessed to have Catherine in my life as a friend and support person. We had a lot of fun today and she really needed to just have a grown up girl day after a tough week.

Oh Jacque---she LOVES my quilt, kitty quilts and pillow cases!!

So, I am going to see what is on tv or if reading my book would be better. I’m reading ‘Last Snow’ by Eric Van Lustbader. He was co-author for the Bourne series.

Can you believe that my nephew’s daughter is 7 years old today!!! Now I feel old :)

Spring??

The snow is melting, there are bits of green grass sprouting and the sun is shining. What more could you ask for, especially on a Monday??

Not much going on the last couple days. I was pretty wiped out from feeding cats, training and a couple nights of not so much sleep last week.

I have another lens appointment tomorrow and hopefully we will get them right this time! I am trying out the new ‘multi-focal’ lenses. Will keep you updated.

Rain or Sunshine??

At 7 a.m., the weather was quite undecided what it wanted to do today. But, it ended up mostly sunny but windy.

I went out to the cattery and then on to training. I have met a few really nice people during the training. Some are retired, have no regular job, or only have summer jobs. Quite the interesting group. I got home about 2:30 and then had to do a little review (as homework) on how to do the census on the Southern Ute Reservation. That will start on Monday, hopefully. (It’s the government, so we shall see!)

I have a few errands to run tomorrow after the cattery and of course, cleaning and laundry.

The next two pictures are of Dusty Dawg, one of the breeders at PK Pixies cattery and I just thought it was so cool that when she was looking to her left, her claws were out on that foot, then she looked to her right and the claws on the right foot were out. She is the best Pixiebob that I have seen so far. And she has a 2” natural tail with a little curl to it. Check out the feet:

The snow is really melting fast here and the trees are budding. Spring is not quite here, and it doesn’t quit snowing here until summer (if then).

I KNOW!! It’s fuzzy. But the colors are too great to not post this picture. And, it’s at 6:55 a.m.

So, drove to Ignacio after feeding/taking care of cats, and had training until 4:30. Then came home with this view ahead of me.

Wish I could have spent the whole day outside, as it was just gorgeous. Only spent the time to and from the car for lunch and then on short breaks.

Found out that there was a gas leak here this morning. The pipe/hose broke off of the meter and so the fire department was up here….. The kids called and told me that they got Manley out and away from the house (on a leash). They also tried to get cats out but they were under the bed. Aren’t they great kids??

Saw a couple of geese out in a field today on the way home. I keep forgetting to tell you too that I had a coyote run across the road in front of me last week. First coyote I have seen (other than in a zoo) in real life! He was fast!!

When I got home, a package was waiting for me and inside was this purse. It actually matches my wallet and checkbook cover (not as shiny, but same shade of green) that I got in Santa Fe last year.

It’s the same brand (Bueno) as my brown purse that I bought at Gordman’s last fall. Nice and soft and lots of pockets and comfy straps.

Wednesday Sunrise

This was the scene as I drove out to the cattery this morning and then went to Census training for 8:30am in Ignacio. Just got home at 3:15 and have to do the same thing tomorrow and Friday. We are doing the Southern Ute Reservation. And we have to go door to door for interviews, can’t just leave the questionnaires on the door knob.

Time to sit and relax and then think about supper. More American Idol tonight. Was a little disappointed with the performances last night. They were doing Rolling Stones songs and nobody actually did any ROCKing. They all changed up the songs to be slow and no shake, rattle and roll going on. Guess I set my expectations too high? Good vocals. Siobahn got my vote last night.

A Sunny Tuesday

This is what my day looked like! How about yours?

Manley got groomed, we took a walk, and laundry, dishes and cleaning got done. Tonight it is American Idol and NCIS on tv.

Life at the cattery is ok, no kittens yet.

I will be training for another part of the Census job the next 3 days. The job in Durango was taken care of by another group, so on to the next step. Don’t know what exactly that is yet, but will know more tomorrow.

No word on the job front. Hope to hear soon, as I am getting restless here at home.

The snow is really melting here and it was in the 50’s today. The sun felt soooo nice and warm. I bet both Manley and I got a little tan today!

Sunday Cats and Snowstorm

So, this morning I went out to feed the cats…. with 1” of snow already on the ground. I drove very carefully and my little Subaru handled just fine. It had snowed another inch before I got home.

Update on the interviews: the Strater Hotel already called 2 of the 3 referrals that I had listed. I haven’t talked with the 3rd one yet. And she called them about 10 minutes after I left the interview. So, everybody keep their fingers crossed (except when driving in snow) and hope that they will hire me.

I am going to relax and read a book and watch a movie or two today. I have Pride and Glory for the movie and am reading Rules of Vengeance by Christopher Reich.

Have to think of something to cook. More soup or maybe make some hamburger patties. Hope you all have a good day and stay warm!!

Job Interviews

Yes, I said interviewsssssssssss. Plural. I had sent my resume to Allied Cash Advance and the Strater Hotel. So, of course, they called on the same day and so, of course, I scheduled them for the same day. First was Allied. It would involve a lot of phone calls, putting fliers on windshields for an hour each day, and collecting money. Not a lot of money, but something I could do if I had to.

Then, on to the Strater Hotel, the oldest hotel in Durango, on Main Ave and has 92 rooms. I was actually 1/2 hour early and Barb, the manager, was available. She didn't mind that I was early at all. We talked for at least 30 minutes about jobs, people and being a tourist. They want a mature person to be at the front desk and also be a shift manager. So, HERE I AM!!!!! It pays ok for Durango, and I think I would really enjoy it. I know the bellman, and realized today that I know the owners too----both from working at Walgreens. So I'm sure I got good references, and my BFF Danielle gave me a good reference too. Barb had called her within 1/2 hour after I left! WOW!

PLUS, my personal chef Chris emailed me about the jobs at Swing and they were starting to interview this next week and hiring for the end of March. He said he put in a very good word for me! He's so nice!

The Census job is slowwwww and I may get some hours yet this week. Oh, that's right, it's the Government and oh yeah, tomorrow is Friday!

To start the day, this a.m. I woke up at 4:15 (a.m.) by a cat walking across my bladder. I had told Mike, one of the kids in front, that I would take him to the airport for his 6:30 flight. And off we went at 5:05 a.m. From there I went to feed the cats. And then I called one the neighbor ladies out there that I knew from when I moved down here, and we went out to breakfast at the Sky Ute Casino. Then it was home, a snack and then my Jafra order arrived, I unpacked it, then off to the interviews.

I also saw my friend Deb at the store after my interviews. It was weird, cuz I had thought about putting her Jafra order in my car. Oh well. We'll get together this weekend.

I am also bringing up the mail and newspaper for the neighbors while they are in Arizona for their spring break. And all the kids are gone for a couple more days, so alone at last!! Enjoying the quiet.

Mommy, What’s in the Bowl?

“Curiosity killed the cat”, but not today Kisa.

It is raining, has been raining since this morning and expected to rain tomorrow too. The kitchen ceiling light fixture started dripping this afternoon. So, I called the landlord and he will be by when it quits raining to see where the roof is leaking. Kisa is checking out what’s in the bowl—and got a big drop on her head as she got closer. It was hilarious. Laughing too hard to get any more pictures though!!

I have spent the last few mornings going out and feeding the cats at PK Pixies. It is taking much more time than I thought, as the cats are wanting attention and who can deny them?

Other than that I have been cleaning my own place, reading, cooking, doing laundry and watching Nascar. On to the Academy Awards.

Thursday

Last week I learned that my friend Pat had died. Her husband Kevin had died from cancer this past November. That was the couple that I was living with when I first moved down to Colorado after buying 2 pixiebobs from her. I cleaned the house and the cattery in exchange for room and board.
Pat died suddenly so her brother Jim and his wife JoAnn are here for over a week trying to get things settled. I had called and left a message that if they needed my help with the cats, to let me know. Well, they finally realized that they did indeed need my help and called me yesterday and so I drove out there. I will be feeding, cleaning litter boxes, and enclosures for Pat's cats and helping with litters (4 are due soon) where needed. I'm not sure for how long and I don't know for sure what is going to happen, but they do have someone interested in carrying on Pat's Pixiebob line, who might buy the place lock, stock, and barrell. Otherwise all of those cats will need a good home or to be placed in someone else's breeding program. I know some of the kittens about to be born are spoken for but there are records and emails for Jim and JoAnn to go through to find those potential buyers.
So, my day was just a little busy yesterday and will be for awhile, seeing as it is 30 miles out to the cattery. I am happy to help out where I can.
I'll let you know if there are any available cats or kittens when things get straightened out.

Lazy Day in Cat World

Just a lazy day for us all. No work assignment today. Evidentally the government doesn’t have it as ‘together’ as they think. I hope no one is surprised at that.

I actually was surprise when I woke up from a 2 hour nap this afternoon. Fell asleep reading. I haven’t taken a nap (unless sick) for months, if not years. Felt pretty good too!!!

On the job front, I applied for a front desk/optho position at my contact lens check appointment yesterday morning. They did not have an ad in the paper, just a sign on their door. Luckily I had a resume’ in my car. Plus I heard through the grapevine that there might be a Front Desk Agent opening at the Strater Hotel. And I have a friend there who will put in a good word for me, as he knows me from Walgreens. And I left a message for the Manager out at Swing, where I applied for a Floor Manager. Chris, my personal chef, is the head chef there, so he put in a good word for me too!

Plus, I sold my first Jafra set on Sunday to my friend Deb and will be calling a couple people tonight to set up their complimentary facials.

So, I’m just plugging away here in Durango and hoping all of this snow melts soon. It was 42 and sunny most of the day. The robins have been here for over a month, so it should be spring pretty soon! It sounds like it is raining because the foot of snow on the roof above mine is melting and dripping.

This is the back of the dog park. I had taken a picture of the other side a week or so ago, but couldn’t get this side because there were too many cars in the way!! (Just thought I’d get both sides for you!)

Yesterday I went to training just down the road, where we got finger printed. They didn’t have the paperwork because of some of the mountain passes between here and Denver were closed due to snow, so it was just a half-day.

So, today I drove to Cortez for my census taking training. I took pictures on the way there and back. I will not post all of them (90) but just the really cool shots! You can click on them to enlarge.

Back in Durango now!

I go to Cortez again Wed and Thursday and have hands-on training Friday here in Durango. Then on Monday, we’ll be all set to start the door-to-door verifying address, number of residents,… or leave the questionnaire on the door knob. They hope to have this area done in 3-4 weeks.

Then starting May 1, they will have crews go around and try to get counts on the houses that did not send their census in. They don’t decide who’s on those crews until a couple of weeks before.

Colorado Does NOT Need Any More Snow!!!!

Posting a picture from this last fall before we got any snow in town because I AM SICK OF SNOW!!!!! I shoveled at least 8 inches of heavy wet snow today. Tried to teach Manley to shovel, but he just kept eating it all instead.

So, got my exercise in for today. Now I’m just going to read, watch the Olympics and then Nascar, plus get ready for my trip to Cortez tomorrow for the Census Taking training. The roads better be clear and dry!! I have to go there all 5 days, and hope to get some people together to carpool.

Just got a call from the Census Bureau and the training is here in Durango, right off of the road I live on! And they pay for lunch too!! So, that was good news!!

At least Manley likes walking through the deep snow!!!

Today is Jill’s birthday. She is the one on the far left in this picture that was taken this fall up in Madison, WI.

Jill has already opened her gifts from me and really likes them. I will let her tell you more about them.

Today it is snowing, adding to the 6 inches we already got yesterday. The main roads are clear, as I went to the store, library, got groceries and dropped off a job application.

The Gang’s All Here!!

Aren’t they just cute!! Manley is hogging the sunshine. Good Boy!

Just a relaxing day today. Emailed my resume to 2 places in the paper. It was about 45 degrees this afternoon and bright sunshine!

So, Nicole and I sat in the hot tub for 2+ hours, drank wine, chatted with the other kids when they came home from school and then I watched them play ‘beer pong’. It’s like ping pong/pool/basketball all in one. I got a little sun too. (And yes, I had sunscreen on! )

Got a call about a UPS Store job yesterday, and then today I got an email from the Fort Lewis College (library position) and I passed the first hurdle. They will let me know in a couple of weeks about the next step.

But, I have my training for the Census Taker position this next week. I committed to that so have to follow through.

I found out last night that Shaun White, the snowboarder who got the gold last night, had a half-pipe built in Silverton, CO. That’s an hour north of here, and the college kids up front know where it is. And Chelsea had a friend who dated Shaun! Plus, Eliot, who was one of the first 3 original kids, knows Billy Kidd, the skier, who has a ranch in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Plus, I got my Jafra case today!! Looked through the brochures….. and am excited to start! I talked with Nicole about it and she is excited to see what it is all about and get a complimentary facial.

And……..my quilt, kitty blankets, and pillowcases are done and will be sent to me very soon! I will of course take pictures and share!!

So, everything is happening at once here and finally!!!

Today is my older sister’s birthday. Jacque is the 2nd one from the right, in the green shirt and red sweater. She lives in Madison, WI right now.

She will call me later today (after work and errands) and then open her presents from me that I left up there in October.

It’s a beautiful day here, and I hope she has a wonderful day. Her coworkers probably made and brought a few cookies or bars for her, as she is loved at work. Well, her family loves her too!! :)

Here’s Kisa, who spent the better part of the day sleeping on my lap. I have had a cold for the last couple of days and elected to take it easy today.

So, I watched the 6 & 1/2 hour Nascar Daytona 500 (usually a 3 hour race) and then on to the Olympics. It was surprising to realize that I enjoyed more of the winter sports than I had originally thought I would.

Off to bed in a bit and then to enjoy my last week off before my training and new job start.

Friday Cats

This looks like a shelf, but is in fact my little furnace. It has 50 bricks stacked into this unit and it is thermo-controlled. And see, only candles and flowers and vase.

Now, see the yellow eyes?? That would be Sparkle peeking at me.

And here she is all comfy and warm.

Then later she moved next to Kalista, who loves being on her back and is sound asleep.

Earlier today I was taking pictures from the south end of town.

This last picture is the small mountain inside the dog park. I would have gotten the rest of it had the other cars not been in my way while I was trying to drive and take pictures!! :)

This is Manley posting. Hey Auntie Jacque and Auntie Kim---mom let me up on the sofa last night!! I helped keep her warm too!!

And that’s Sparkle on the sofa arm behind me, hence the eyes open. You might have to click on the picture to see her better.

Then mom took me and gave me a bath today. I’m not sure she loves me anymore! She knows I hate baths.

This was my scenery out my north window as the sun was coming up over the mountains this morning. (Remember to click on pictures to enlarge them!!)

I made my pico de gallo yesterday and went next door to the kids’ place to watch the Super Bowl. They made pizza and we cheered our teams on.

Glad football is over, and bring on the Nascar Racing! Did I hear that Danica Patrick is going to do Nascar now instead of Formula One? Watch out guys! And Kyle Busch is engaged now! wow.

My sister’s dog, Tag, is 8 years old today. Manley already sent his present to him and he loves it.

I was sitting at my computer this morning watching the robins fly from this tree to the top of my roof. There are 10 in this picture. Click on picture to enlarge it. That’s when I noticed that there were others watching them as well:

Manley Get Off the Sofa!!!

I accidentally threw his bunny up on the sofa and he made himself comfy for a minute.

And he did. Such a goofy boy.

Thursday’s Sunny Spot

Just a little patch of sunshine over on the mountains after our snow this morning. We only got a couple of inches. It is all melted off the sidewalks and streets this afternoon.

Nothing new on the job front. Sent a resume out to the Fort Lewis College Library and to the Wells Fargo Bank. Applied online with the post office, as I heard there is a part time job opening up in another month or so for a relief driver.

Rearranging

I took down the wall-mounted tv that was in this corner and moved my forever golden rug over towards the corner, hung my ‘couch potato’ picture and rearranged the corner shelf and the top of my sewing machine.

Here’s the picture of Tag and Manley that Jacque gave to me in the background as pups atop my sewing machine.

It looks so much less cluttered without that tv hanging up there. And it’s brighter now. See my stuffed pixie bob on the right end of the shelf? My sister Jacque made that for me!!

I miss him so. He was also blind in his left eye and going blind in his right eye and trusted me totally. Very good with voice commands too.

Just had to share this one. We have more snow coming. Not sure how much. But those clouds are covering a good share of the top of the mountains. Can’t wait for it to get here!!

I had my unemployment appeal hearing yesterday. Won’t know the decision until I get it in the mail---hopefully by Friday.

Went to a matinee yesterday ‘Book of Eli’ and I suggest every one go see it. Denzel is magnificent in it and the movie is awesome.

This is my precious Kisa. Just wanted to put a more recent picture of her on here because the one on the side of the blog is from when she was about 5 months old. She is now almost 5 years old. But, I love that picture of her when she was young!! Can you tell the difference between her and Sparkle? Let me know!!

Nothing new on the job front YET. This morning I took the test for the Federal Census 2010 and passed. Hip Hip Hooray!! They will be contacting me within a week or so. The training is in February and then the real ‘foot work’ starts in March. Durango census takers go door-to-door and deliver the forms, then ask for you to mail them in if you are too busy to answer questions then. It will be mostly evenings and weekends and up to 40 hours a week. And it could last until Sept. or October. Hey, it’s a job!!

I was in Albertson’s this noon picking up my last paycheck and getting some yogurt, water and ibuprofen from the pharmacy that I had forgotten there this last week. The tech, Jerrilyn, could not find my ibu so she said to talk with Dwight, the manager, next time he worked. Susan, the other pharmacist, was sitting out of sight and neither one asked how I was doing or too bad things didn’t work out or kiss my butt or anything. And I had gone up there with a smile on my face and was being very pleasant. I said hi to a couple of people there and they could not believe that I was let go. So, I’m glad that month is behind me and that I am moving on.

That’s all I’ve got for now folks!

Oh! Jacque is getting the quilting done and the binding sewn on my wonderful, large, beautiful quilt. Hope I get to see it soon! Go to her blog doodles of my mind (on my sidebar) and take a peek.

My shovel placed to see how much snow we got. Yup, about 1 foot!!

We all know who this handsome man is!

The snow outside my bedroom window this a.m. My window is 3 feet off the ground.

There are really two cars buried out there. One is a jeep and one is a sedan.

My van is on the right hand side of the garage. It’s red. Can you find it??

Going down the first part of the driveway, then have to turn left for the rest.

This is the rest and it kind of angles to the left and goes down some more to the road. Too slippery to walk all the way down. Will post another one someday soon from the bottom to the top.

This is such a cool picture. I opened my living room window and got a close up of this pile of snow. It is blue. That is how much water is in the snow that fell last night.

I had Manley sit next to this pile of snow. He measures 28” at the top of his head.

So, it is still snowing lightly and is not suppose to quit until sometime tomorrow. The kids are gone skiing so I am here alone left to do the necessary shoveling.
