Silverton

There is a mining and lumber town about an hour north of Durango that I have wanted to go to for quite a while. So, today I packed up a few items, grabbed Manley and a leash, stopped to pick up Deb and off to Silverton we went! The view is absolutely gorgeous. I am so glad I have a sunroof so I could see more! We were up about 11,000 feet at one time. Not a road to be on in the snowy weather. There are no guard rails most of the way. The roads are twisty curvy and steep.

The town is small but has a lot of cute shops along the main drive. Manley got to go in a couple of shops, and could have gone in more had I been able to carry him. NOT! Had lunch in an old saloon type restaurant, bought a t-shirt that reached out and grabbed me and was calling my name. (Just ask Deb) I will take it to Wisconsin so some of you can see it. I also bought a small glass hummingbird to hang in my north window. It is purple and green and gold.

On the way back we stopped at a lake to see where Deb's son will be married and then at Honeyville, where they have honey (of course) and flavored honey, flavored wine, candles, Burts Bees products and barbq sauces. We even got to taste test some of the wine.

It was partly cloudy and we watched a big storm move into the mountains by Silverton. It was a very good day. Deb knows a lot of the history and so I am well informed now.

Made eggplant parmigan this afternoon. First time I have cooked and/or eaten it. It's not bad.

Well, the start of another work week, dog/house sitting and then Labor Day and I get to see some of my family.

Y'all have a good week and will chat soon.

Almost Fall

There is a feeling of fall in the air. The temperature gets down to about 45 degrees at night and up to 85 during the day. We had rain a couple of days this week and the grass has really greened up without any help from me.

Work has gone very smoothly this week. Just steady enough to keep me out of trouble and in a good mood.

I have been busy this week wheeling and dealing for a car. My van did not qualify for the 'cash for clunkers' but I am now a proud owner of a 2001 white Subaru Forester. It has a big sunroof, brand new tires, all wheel drive and a cd player. Plus a lot of other extras too numerous to mention. The payments are well within my budget and Manley's crate will fit nicely in it.

This is not my car, but this is what it looks like...nice, hey?

There are 3 college kids living in the front of the house now. 2 guys and 1 girl and they have a Boxer named Kona. Manley and her met and seem to like one another. They will let me continue using part of their freezer and they told me to let them know if the noise level gets too high.

Just thinking that maybe they could dog/cat sit when I go to Wisconsin in October. We'll see how responsible they are.

This next Wednesday I will be dog sitting for Jeff's 2 Swiss Mountain dogs. Manley and I will be staying there and I will stop in and feed/visit the cats for a week.

My niece Jody and her family are going to be in Durango next Sunday. I could have them come up to Jeff's house and fix them a meal. Will have to discuss that with them this next week.

Manley turned 8 this last Monday. He got a green/orange rock, which is a whole story in itself. I think I blogged something last month about it. Anyway, he likes his new toy.

Did I ever tell you the 'pup-in-a-basket' story?

Trying to decide what to cook this weekend. Any suggestions?? Chicken, fajitas, burgers....

Y'all have a good weekend and let me know what y'all are doing.

The Blue Sky of Colorado

Just imagine, absolutely no clouds in the sky..............
That is what I love about Colorado. A nice breeze today that is helping keep the temperature down.
Watching the Nascar Race from Michigan and relaxing in my recliner. The cats are all on the bed and Manley is sleeping in the corner by my chair.
This has been a quiet weekend, as I only had laundry and a couple other chores to do. I had gotten the place ready for an Open House on Thursday, so I get to relax today. The hot tub is nice and clean and clear and 99 degrees.

I talked with my mom today and she is holding on. Ray has had a couple of complications lately and so she is running around taking him to doctor appointments, physical therapy, plus her errands. I hope Ray appreciates what all she does for him. I also told her about the 'tentative plans' for October. And reminded her that they are 'tentative' before we hung up.

I cooked a pork roast Thursday after work. I added a couple of red potates, some onions, and some squash and had a nice meal. I should be able to have several meals out of it.

Two young guys were out yesterday to look at renting out the front part of the house. They both work at Steamworks, a local brewery/pub/restaurant/live music eatery. Does that describe it well enough?? And one of the guys runs the sound board when they have live entertainment and he has hires out during the week on his days off.
Will let you know more as I do! I have enjoyed just having the place all to myself for a while.

I groomed Manley today and he was very good, even when clipping his nails. (Imagine that Jacque) He looks and smells better with all of the dead hair out of him. These cooler nights are telling him to start shedding summer hair and get that winter coat on!

Well, back to the races and watching the hummingbirds around the feeder.

My great nephew Tyler's birthday is today and Vincent House's was yesterday. Happy Birthday guys!!

Hope y'all had a great weekend.

A Good Sunday

An early start to the day. I guess the cats and dog were cold last night. They were all snuggled up to their mom at 4:30 a.m. It was 62 degrees in here. I finally got out of bed at 6:30, fed cats and dog, and started the sprinkler before it got too sunny or hot. The grass got away from me this last week and got a little brown. So I started watering the crap out of it yesterday. It looks better today, and will start watering again when the sun isn't as intense.

There has not been 1 cloud in the sky all day. That's what I love about Colorado. LOTS of sunny days.

Yesterday I went to the Farmers Market and bought squash, lettuce, tomatoes, garlic, onions, peaches, bread and strawberry-rubarb jam. Then I went and got my hair cut and colored. Picked up some groceries and stopped at the library. I finished the book 'The Apostle', cooked up some fajitas, vacuumed and watched some tv. The bear came wandering down the hill about 5:15 last night. He headed next door to the apple trees. It was right after I heard a couple of dogs barking frantically up the hill and sounded like they were fighting or chasing something, as was probably the case. Manley was all upset along with the little dog next door.

Today I got my laundry done, clipped nails and combed cats, finished up the rest of my chores and am starting the book 'The Scarecrow' by Michael Connelly.

I've been checking airfares to Wisconsin and back. I plan on leaving Durango Oct. 10th and meeting Joyce at the Minneapolis/St.Paul airport. Then we will travel to Eau Claire together by shuttle, stay at mom's a couple of days, then I'll take the bus to Madison, rent a car for a couple of days, see my friends and sister, have sister's day Friday night and Saturday, then travel back up to Minn/St. Paul for the flight home on Sunday, the 18th. That's the plan now, but who knows if they will change or not.

The Nascar Race got postponed again today, like last Sunday, and will be aired tomorrow at noon. Too bad I have to work and will miss it, as I missed last weeks race.

Not doing much the rest of the day except reading, enjoying the warm weather and having fajitas for supper.

Let me know what y'all have been doing this weekend.

Long Week

I am so glad it is almost Friday. One more day of work, then my 2 days off!! This weekend I hope to get my hair done, then Manley gets a bath and grooming. Cats need to get combed and nails clipped. Cleaning, laundry, water lawn, get my mp3 player up and running, a visit to farmer's market and watch Nascar race. Gee, and what will I do in my spare time??? :) I know, hot tub here I come!!

Trying to get all my ducks in a row for my vacation in Wisconsin in October. Just making sure my friends and family will be around and what days are better for all concerned. So many people to see, so little time.

What are y'all doing this weekend?

Stay on the Sidewalk

Manley is just way too smart. We went down to the mailbox to get yesterday's mail, about 2 long blocks away. There is a sidewalk that starts on the other side of the street from the end of the driveway. Of course, I would rather walk on a sidewalk, so we did. Manley started to go off into the street twice and I told him to "stay on the sidewalk". So he did. On the way back up I cut off from the sidewalk about 6 feet short of the end. Well, Mr. Manley 'stayed on the sidewalk' until it ran out and then we went up the driveway together. I just shook my head and walked home.

Yesterday I did quite of few chores, like house cleaning, laundry, change bed, dishes, garbage, cleaned out the hot tub, cut some spindley branches off the trees that were too low, and mowed the lawn. I even could count on one hand how many clouds were in the sky, and they were small ones at that. The rest of the day I was either sitting in the hot tub, sitting in the shade reading a book, or listening to music. I also ate a couple of meals in there too and started watering lawn where it was shaded. The book I am almost done reading is by Steve Martini and the title is Guardian of Lies. My next book will be by Brad Thor and is The Apostle.

Lora and her family are home from their vacation, so no more driving out to Bayfield to feed their lifeforms out there.

My toenails are now Banana Bandanna again. I also did that yesterday.

Today is going to be quiet. I woke up with a migraine this morning and tried sleeping it off (hard to do with 3 cats wanting breakfast) and then we have the Manley who just sleeps on the bed until after I visit the little girls room.

I will be checking out airfares and bus fares and maybe rental car fares for my trip to Wisconsin in October. I think with all of the people and friends I want to see, it'd be easier to rent a car at the airport and then I don't have to bother any body else to give me rides or pick me up. We'll see how expensive it is.

Well, off to start the rest of the day.
What are y'all doing today???
