Idol Results Night

Just sitting here getting ready to watch American Idol, eating catfish nuggets that I made myself, along with asparagus and watching a couple of deer up on the path outside my living room window.

The cats have all had their supper and Manley has had his meal and gone outside for awhile.
All the cats are getting along really well and Kisa is still Miss Queen Bee in this house!
Oh!! Just remembered that I hadn't posted about getting another cat. Well, Sparkle is 2 years old and was born when all of us were living out at Pat and Kevins'. So these 3 use to play and eat together. Sparkle is a shaggy coat like Kisa (but needs a good grooming). She was sold to Gary, the Walgreens store manager, and wasn't working out. So after much thought, I offered to take her. If she didn't work out, I can always find her a home.

But, Sparkle is settling in and is low kitty on the totem pole. She's a very vocal cat and has to know where we all are. There was a little hissing and growling but no big cat fights :) She seems to be happy and even liked Harley, the black lab I dog sat this last weekend.

Talking about labs, have you seen the new Cottonelle commercials with the yellow lab getting the massage, soaking in the bath tub.... It is a hoot.

Well, not surprised with AI results. Just really surprised that Adam was in the bottom 3!! All of those kids will have a great future no matter what. Natalie Cole looked good and so did Taylor Hicks. And Jamie Foxx is an artist.

I have a dog sitting job this coming Sunday and Monday for Jayme, one of the assistant managers at Walgreens. She also told me that her neighbor with 3 boxers is tired of paying $75 a day for some one to house/dog sit. So Jayme will give them my phone number. $75 a day??? Who can afford that?? I'm saving my dog sitting money for Memorial Day in Los Alamos with part of the family.

This Friday evening Deb and I are going to the Skate Exhibition. Jeff, the pharmacist, has 2 girls in the show. Ruby, who is quite the character, is 4 and will expect all eyes on her, and Marit who is 9 and very good for only skating 2 years. A few other people we know well will be there too. It should be fun!

That's all for today. Time to do dishes and make lunch for tomorrow. Then bedtime.

Yard Work

I am pooped! I took the dogs for a walk this a.m. and then started in on my yard work. The dogs supervised. I bagged up the leaves that I had raked out of the pond, raked up pine cones and pine needles and a few leaves, cleaned out the flower beds of anything other than flowers, watered the flower beds, hauled the bags out to the shed, then came in for a break ----3 hours later. I bet I'm going to be sore tomorrow!!

I watched half of the Nascar Race, then Joe stopped over to drain the hot tub, clean out the pond yuk, refill both and then I finished watching the race.

Of course, during all of the race and the rest of the day I was doing my normal cleaning, laundry, .......

I took Harley home about 6:30, and talked with Mom a bit.
Just going to watch tv and listen to Manley snore and go to bed about 10:00. I switched hours with the other tech at Walgreens and so I work 11-7:30 tomorrow. If I'm not too lazy, I will take Manley for a walk.

40% Chance of Rain

Hope the rain gets over with today so my day off will be nice.

Lots went on this week. First, the sewer and plumbing need to be fixed. The sewer backed up and the landlord had to come out and find the holding tank............ It still isn't completely done but at least I can use water and take quick showers. I was using the neighbors bathroom for 2 days.

Joe, the landlord, and I talked about lawn care and gardening and watering. I will get $$ taken off of my rent for mowing, raking, weeding, cleaning out the small pond.... I don't know how long it will take me so we agreed to talk about it when he gets back from Denver in 2 weeks.

Joe also is thinking about having me clean the boys place every 2 weeks, as it is not up to 'showing' standards in his book. So, we'll see how that goes.

I am dog sitting for Harley, Kyle's dog, this weekend. In exchange for him taking care of Manley when I go to Los Alamos in another month. Harley is a mellow, yes I said mellow, black lab and he is 6 or 7. I stopped at home and put Manley in his crate in the van, then put Harley in the back seat so they could get to know each other before we got home and into the house. And when we got home, they were fine. Harley had never seen a cat before, and he just looked at them like 'oh, small dogs'. Manley claimed the bed last night and Harley found a spot on the
side.

This morning I put a gate up between the bedroom and living room and separated the dogs while at work. When I get home we will all be taking a hike if weather permits.

Tomorrow we will all spend a lot of time outside after cleaning and doing laundry. I have flower beds to clean up and water, rake pine cones and leaves to bag up from the pond. I even bought some gardening gloves! And if time, I will mow the lawn or parts of it.

It's getting busier here at the EconoLodge which keeps me out of trouble and awake.

I also have another dog sitting client. The new assistant manager at Walgreens has a Lhaso Apso and they are getting a Vizala puppy!! They go up to Denver about once a month, and they also know a neighbor with 3 boxers who is looking for a house sitter. Things are looking up!

Time to get back to work, as the boss is here. Wouldn't want him to catch me napping!! :)

Manley to the Rescue

I am so proud of my dog Manley. I was doing laundry, dishes and listening to music when Manley came in the kitchen area and started whining and going into the bedroom, then back again..... So, I asked him what he wanted, and he went into the bedroom with me behind him. Much to my surprise my bedroom door out into the laundry room was not tightly closed, and Kalista was in the laundry room!!! Bandit, the inherited cat, was not around right then, but there is a cat door. So, I quickly scooped up Kalista and came in and shut the door TIGHT.
Kisa, the good girl, was up in the cat tree sleeping, so no worries about her. But isn't that cool???
Manley knows when I am needed in a certain situation. I praised him and loved on him and gave him a bunch of treats. He really rescued Kalista!! Yeah Manley!!

Got done with all of the cleaning, laundry, dishes, dusting, changed bed, took out garbage, watered flower beds, picked up pine cones and then sat in the hot tub. Read my book for awhile and even went for a hike with Manley this morning. He met 3 new dogs (1 chocolate lab, 1 black lab and 1 mastiff) on the hike and hugged one of the 2 guys that were walking them.

It got up to about 70 degrees today and there's a good breeze and lots of sun, and about 10 clouds that passed over this afternoon. It will be like this for the next few days. I have a couple of windows open and it feels nice to have a breeze through the apartment.

Just planning on doing some more reading and then watch some tv later this evening.

A Nice Change in Weather

The last 2 days it snowed/rained here in Durango which was suppose to continue through today. Well, Mother Nature decided to be nice and give us a partly cloudy day instead. Thank you!

I can't believe I haven't posted until now! I've been busy checking people out, replenishing the continental breakfast items and checking people in a bit early, as they are attending a wedding.
Then chatting with the boss and eating lunch. We have 25 rooms booked tonight, out of 45. Not bad for mid-April. Only 2 more hours of work left.

Last night I stopped at the grocery store and picked up a pork loin for cheap. I sliced it into 1" thick slabs and browned it up with garlic, onions and jalepeno peppers, then threw it in the frige. I had a small piece of it and boy, was it tender!!! I think it was even more tender than the tenderloin!! I had some on my salad today and have to think of other dishes to put it in or with, like with asparagus or green beans, garlic mashed potatoes... I have enough to last about 4 meals.

Also, when I was at the store, I bought some Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I plan on having 1 serving of it tonight for dessert. Yummy! It is normally $4.69 per pint but on sale 2/$5.oo. Good deal.

Thursday after work I got my hair cut and colored. It is short like it was last fall when I saw many of you. No more long hair for me. Plus, it was bleached out alittle because I would brush it back off my forehead while in the hot tub. OOPPSS!!

Tonight is Prom Night here at the high school. The flower shop across the street has been busssy. Who has any good stories to tell about their Prom Night??? It seems so long ago. Oh yeah, it was! And longer ago for some of you---sisters!!

There's a Bluegrass Festival downtown this weekend. I just found out about it this a.m. so will check and see who might be available to go down there with me tomorrow. I haven't gone to a bluegrass concert since I went with Jill in Wausau about 10?? years ago? Should be fun.
I will let you know!

But first I have to clean, do laundry, walk the dog.......the usual Sunday to-do list. The Nascar race is even later tomorrow, so that will work out good!!

You all have a good weekend and take care.

Wednesday-Hump Day

It is really windy again today. We are in a storm/snow watch until tomorrow night. And 8-18 inches is what they are predicting up in the mountains, another 2 thousand feet above Durango. The cats love windy weather, because the leaves in the yard blow around and it is fun for them to watch, sometimes running from window to window trying to 'catch' them.

I had a different weekend. I was under the weather, plus I forgot my phone at work, and my mom was trying to call. At least I had email. Just rested in between laundry, vacuuming...

Work is going ok this week. My friend Catherine dropped off some muffins for us all and boy were they yummy!! She bakes everything from scratch--no box mixes in her house! I was surprised when she told me a couple of weeks ago that her 2 daughters have never eaten at McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King..... Mike, her husband, was a very good influence on all of them.

I was in the hot tub at 6:30 this morning. I had evidentally tried not moving while Manley was up on the bed, down by my knees. So my legs were cramped and my neck was sore. Plus, a light was left on all night and was shining in my bedroom window. Disrupted my sleep somewhat. So, after the boys left, I got up and soaked for a bit. Then took a nice hot shower too!

I am getting my hair cut tomorrow after work. I baked some brownies for my hair stylist (in place of a tip) and also took some next door to Jim and Cynthia and then took some to the boys. I only had 2 small ones for dessert. They helped cool off my mouth from the spicey fajitas and pico de gallo. (I made the pico last night in preparation for tonights fajitas.) So, no more brownies for Julie!!

American Idol made me cry tonight. The judges saved Matt. But then 2 people leave next week. The remaining people are all so good it's going to be hard to see any of them go from this point on.

Hope every one has their taxes done. I filed early and got my refund, then bought this computer, so all set until next year.

It is time for bed. Good night all!!

Hurray for Friday

I've been waiting all week for this day. For one thing, it is the last day of work at Walgreen's, then there is Saturday at the EconoLodge and then SUNDAY!! Plus, I usually have the place alone cuz the boys go back to Denver for the weekend.

The forecast for tomorrow is up to 18" of snow. What a difference from yesterday and today, which was in the 60's. Hope Sunday is sunny and warmer.

I will be buying a couple of tomato plants and potting them in a couple of weeks. Joe, my landlord, said I can do whatever I want. I guess that means I can use any pots out in his shed, potting soil... Joe and his wife, Kelley, will be here soon for a day of working in the herb garden and the small flower gardens in the yard. I'll be taking pictures when the flowers and herbs are in bloom. Hopefully on a digital camera vrs. my phone.

Hope everyone has a Happy Easter and a good weekend.

He Survived!!

Manley survived his bath today. Tomorrow I will groom him----another thing he LOVES---not! At least I got his nails clipped while in the bath tub. That's when they are softer and somewhat transparent.

And yes, he was all happy when he went into the Healthy Hounds and Fat Cats, but when he saw the tub, his total body language changed. The owner even commented on it. After 7 & 1/2 years I can definitely read my dog.

It's suppose to be 75 degrees by Wednesday. One day 2 inches of snow, then 3 days later --hot. That's Colorado!

D-Day for Manley

Poor Manley!! He is patiently waiting in the van for me to get done working so we can do something fun, he thinks! Just wait til he sees the bathtub at the pet store! I KNOW the look he will give me, but too bad buster!

It snowed about 2 inches last night. The wet, heavy snow that is so pretty on the sides of the trees.... We are in a winter storm watch until this afternoon. Over by Wolf Creek Pass it is suppose to snow a couple of feet this weekend. It's good for the skiers and snowboarders.

Have you ever had this happen?? I was sitting in the hot tub last night resting my head against the side, when all of a sudden something brushed the back of my head!!! EEEKKKKKKK!!!! But I knew instantly what happened. Bandit likes to be around the hot tub when I'm in it, so he was jumping up on the side and batting at my hair. The next thing he did was try grabbing my towel and trying to pull it off. But, he missed and a corner of it went in the water. Naughty boy.

When my alarm went off this morning, 2 cats went SPRINGING out of bed. I normally wake up before the alarm goes off, so they aren't use to hearing the alarm. Poor girls. A good way to get their adrenaline going though. And then there's Manley. He waits until I get up, use the bathroom, and then head for his food bin. THEN he gets off the bed.

Not doing much tomorrow besides the usual cleaning, laundry, Nascar race, reading and cooking.
It's suppose to be up in the 50's so maybe I'll get in a hike with Manley, or at least get out in the sun.

Joyce should be in Georgia with her son and daughter. I hope they are having a good time and that she gets some quiet time alone with her son. I wish him well as he goes deploys to Afghanistan.

That's it guys! Oh, Jacque, somehow I missed the blog about Reba. She looks good and I'm glad she remembered you. She seems to have a good life.

Bye

Don't Tell Manley!

I have a coupon for a Free bathing at one of the pet stores/boarding kennels. So, Saturday after work at the EconoLodge we'll be off to 'Healthy Hounds and Fat Cats'. Manley will be so surprised :) He absolutely HATES baths and blow dryers. He is shedding a lot right now and the bath will help get that hair out.

This week has gone pretty well. It hasn't been too busy at work, but steady enough to keep me out of trouble. I hurt my back last Sunday so have been dealing with that all week. The hot tub helps, along with a heating pad. My back actually feels pretty good today.

I think I told all of you that I inherited my landlords cat when I moved in. Bandit stays out in the laundry room/outside. He was such a nice boy and brought me a mouse today. Right on the rug outside my door. I SOOOO love that. I know it's a gift, but I would rather do without that one!! Hasn't any one ever taught him not to play with his food???? LOL

Did you all watch American Idol this week??? Last night David Cook was on and sang his new single. He is just so cute and I'm still waiting for my sister to burn his first cd for me.
I am glad that Megan got the boot. I have not liked her from the beginning and her voice is just now what I like listening to. I think Adam, Danny or Allison will be the winner this year.

This is mountain lion season. I will make sure that Manley isn't loose, tied out without supervision or food is left out for too long in the garbage can. The mountain lions don't like a lot of noise. Same with bears. So, barking dogs would most likely scare them off. They had to shoot and kill 2 of them last year within the city limits of Durango. So, while hiking I will be making lots of noise.

That's all for now!
Take care and be well.
